Maggie is a mess. Like, a hot one. She’s getting divorced, finds no joy in her work, and is broke. She ain’t coping well. First there’s the incessant emails to her ex. Then the erratic dating patterns. And then there’s the drinking. It’s…a lot. Sure, it starts innocent enough. Who hasn’t had a one night stand or a imbibed too much after a bad breakup? But soon, we’re watching Maggie torpedo toward rock bottom. She’s pushing away all the people she cares about – and who care about her – as she becomes increasingly self-involved and self-destructive. But you’ll keep reading because you’re just waiting to see her pull herself back up…and because it’s hilarious.
After reading this, I wasn’t surprised to learn the author wrote for Schitt’s Creek. Haisey captures all the cringey moments we don’t want to admit we dabble in, from the Google searches to the helping hand that goes ignored. Maggie makes bad choice after bad choice, but we can all see ourselves in her. Maybe we haven’t done everything she’s done when we’re working through a tough time, but we’ve certainly thought about it.
